Description

In Forst, in the sunny heart of the Pfalz, the Von Winning winery set out to prove that a village wine can compete with the big names: not through volume, but through tension, minerality and a deeply insightful interpretation of the terroir. Thus was born the Von Winning Forster Riesling Trocken, a Riesling that captures the essence of the great slopes of Forst and translates it into precision. Here, the tradition of German Riesling intersects with a bold decision: to seek structure and texture through significant ageing in wood, without losing a jot of freshness. The result is a dryRiesling that speaks of its origins in its own voice: stony, spicy and ripe citrus, more mineral than floral, more gastronomic than indulgent.

Production

For Von Winning Forster Riesling Trocken, the grapes enter the winery with a focus on aromatic purity and energy. Following gentle pressing and careful settling, fermentation is managed to preserve the varietal character and, above all, the soil profile. The key lies in the ageing: much of the wine is aged in wood (not to impart character, but to refine it), adding a slight tannic grip and depth. Bottling completes a dry, crisp and firm style, with 12% ABV and a balance that is felt more through its length than its impact.

Taste

In Von Winning Forster Riesling Trocken, the nose is clear, deep and elegant: first come salinity and damp stone; then a cascade of ripe citrus (lime, candied lemon) with a restrained exotic hint reminiscent of fruit peel and fine spice. It is on the palate where it shines: dense yet exquisite, flavourful, with a touch of acidity that does not shout, but rather brings everything together. The oak lends a subtly tannic texture that tightens the mid-palate and makes it irresistibly food-friendly. The finish is long, dry and stimulating, leaving a trail of lemon, delicate herbs and a lingering salty sensation that calls for food… and the next sip.
