Features

Description

In a little explored corner of the Côte de Beaune, where the vineyard merges with the steep slopes of Maranges, Vincent Girardin found fertile ground to express the most honest essence of Pinot Noir. While others looked to the grands crus, Girardin opted for these discreet slopes, relying on the strength of their soils and the nobility of their old vines. This wine comes from vineyards over 45 years old in Sampigny, Dezize and Cheilly-lès-Maranges, where the clay-limestone and south-east exposure give character, structure and freshness.

Winemaking

Harvesting for Vincent Girardin Maranges Vieilles Vignes is manual, with a careful selection in the vineyard and in the cellar, even with the support of an optical scanner in some vintages. The grapes, partially destemmed, are fermented in stainless steel tanks after a cold maceration. During fermentation, pumping over and gentle punching down alternate. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, with 30% new wood. The final blending is carried out before bottling, without fining and with a very light filtration, respecting the expression of the terroir as much as possible.

Taste

Vincent Girardin Maranges Vieilles Vignes shows a precise and delicate nose: black cherry, redcurrant, a touch of undergrowth and soft spicy notes from the oak. The palate is fluid and taut, with polished tannins and an acidity that gives it life and length. There is a balance between ripe fruit and chalky minerality, with hints of cocoa, damp earth and plum. The finish is long, subtly saline, with echoes of the depth of the Burgundy soil. An honest, juicy wine of pure expression, combining sobriety and pleasure without artifice.
