Description

On the slopes of the Paardeberg in Swartland, where the decaying granite turns to dust underfoot and the sun punishes with honesty, The Sadie Family dreamed up a wine that speaks not just of the present, but of the future. Twiswind is born from a vineyard co-planted with thirteen Mediterranean white varieties - from Vermentino to Semillon, from Grillo to Clairette Blanche - designed to withstand the onslaught of climate change without sacrificing aromatic complexity. Eben Sadie was not looking for a sum of parts, but a whole with a soul. A single parcel, a single message.

Winemaking

The Sadie Family Twiswind vineyard, facing Southwest, ripens early thanks to a rocky subsoil that drains as if it were breathing. The grapes are harvested in two phases and each part is co-fermented spontaneously, in concrete tanks and old neutral wood vats. The wine is aged on the lees for 11 months without intervention, in order to preserve its mineral purity. It is bottled unfiltered, with minimal addition of sulphur dioxide. Nothing is left over, nothing is missing.

Taste

The Sadie Family Twiswind has a complex and restrained nose: citrus peel, fennel, dried quince, sea salt. There is a subtle perfume of wild flowers and an earthy echo reminiscent of warm granite after rain. The palate is dense but agile, with vibrant acidity pushing it towards a taut, saline, almost electric finish. The silky texture and aftertaste leave notes of wax, green almond and white tea.

There is no lush fruit here, no wood to tuck in: just purity, minerality and a radical expression of South African terroir. It is a meditative, serious white, with an austere elegance that is not shown, but sensed. Ideal for those seeking depth rather than impact, and truth rather than style.
