Description
In Chambolle Musigny, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits(Burgundy), Pinot Noir is not produced: it is interpreted. Joseph Drouhin Chambolle Musigny is the result of a patient, almost artisanal philosophy: listening to the vineyard rather than imposing a style. In this legendary commune, the limestone and Jurassic marl soils bring finesse, perfume and a mineral tension that defines the wine's identity. The continental climate - with its contrasts - forces precise decisions to be made during the harvest: one day can separate floral delicacy from over-ripeness. Drouhin has made this balance its hallmark, prioritising purity, freshness and transparency.
Winemaking
At Joseph Drouhin Chambolle Musigny, the grapes are harvested by hand into aerated crates and carefully sorted before reaching the winery. Total destemming is carried out to preserve the clarity of the fruit and the reading of the terroir. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts and a maceration of approximately 2 to 3 weeks in small open vats, refining the extraction with punch-downs and pump-overs: the aim is not muscle, but texture and aromatic precision. After devatting, the wine is pressed vertically and fractions are separated according to tasting to maintain elegance. Ageing continues in French oak barrels for 14 to 16 months, with a moderate percentage of new wood, seeking complexity without hiding the character of Chambolle Musigny.
Taste
In the glass, Joseph Drouhin Chambolle Musigny expresses itself like silk with nerve. The nose opens with violet, peony and red cherry, followed by raspberry and a deeper point of black cherry that never turns confectionery. With air there are layers of undergrowth, a hint of truffle and that wet stone sensation that adds seriousness. The palate enters fine and straight: restrained fruit, precise acidity that stretches the drink and small-grained tannins, enveloping, without drying. The finish is long, floral and subtly saline, leaving an unmistakable Burgundian impression: lightness with depth, elegance that lingers long after the last sip.
