Description

Rafael Cambra Dos is not conceived as a wine, but as an extension of the landscape. From Casa Colaus, the estate he took over in 2020 in Fontanars dels Alforins, he has breathed new life into a place with a long agricultural history, surrounded by vineyards, woodland and an inland Mediterranean climate that demands precision and sensitivity. Rafael Cambra Dos is born from this vision: a red wine that seeks a balance between local identity and a more refined interpretation of the Mediterranean blend. The foundation is provided by Monastrell from old vines, accompanied by Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and a touch of Garnacha, in a blend that combines depth, freshness and fluidity. In this part of the Valencia D.O., with its poor soils and dry climate, the vine expresses itself with concentration, vigour and a distinct mineral character—traits that Cambra prefers to preserve rather than mask.

Production

Rafael Cambra Dos is composed of 35% Monastrell from old vines, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc and 15% Garnacha. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks using indigenous yeasts, a choice that reinforces the character of the terroir and avoids an invasive winemaking process. The wine is then aged for 10 months in oak vats and used barrels, gaining complexity and texture without excessive oak influence. Finally, it spends a further four months in stainless steel before bottling, which takes place in November. With 13.5% alcohol, good acidity and fine tannins, the wine is designed with precision rather than volume in mind.

Taste

On the nose, Rafael Cambra Dos displays a spicy and restrained character, with black pepper, dried herbs, undergrowth and fresh black fruit. Cherry, blackberry and plum notes emerge, but remain restrained, without becoming overly ripe. The Monastrell brings an earthy, Mediterranean character, the Cabernets add freshness and structure, and the Garnacha softens the whole. On the palate, it is juicy, medium-bodied, with a fine backbone and polished tannins. It has tension, freshness and a long, spicy and slightly balsamic finish. A serious, fluid and highly food-friendly Mediterranean red wine.
