Description

On the steep slopes of Finca les Planetes, in the heart of the Priorat, Carles Ortiz took a risky decision: to replant his Cabernet Sauvignon vines, which never convinced him, with mass selections of Cariñena from Mas d'En Caçador. It was then that chance and the land spoke: six vines spontaneously mutated into Cariñena Blanca, a variety almost forgotten in Catalonia. Together with Ester Nin -biologist, oenologist and a benchmark in biodynamic viticulture-, they decided to take a chance on this rarity. What began as an anomaly became a small oenological jewel.

Thus Planetes de Nin Blanc was born, a wine that sprouts from less than one hectare of old vines grown at an altitude of 350 metres above sea level, on the black llicorella soils that define the radical character of the Priorat. Cultivated under certified biodynamic principles, without herbicides or chemicals, this white wine seeks to express the telluric force of the place without embellishment.

Winemaking

The grapes for Planetes de Nin Blanc are harvested by hand, with a two-day skin maceration before a delicate pressing. Fermentation is spontaneous, with indigenous yeasts, in neutral 300-litre French oak barrels, where the wine is also aged for seven months. Nothing is forced. Everything respects the natural rhythm of the wine.

Taste

Planetes de Nin Blanc is a wine of tension and purity. On the nose, notes of dried flower, almond, camomile and hot stone appear. There is an elegant austerity: lemon peel, a saline trace, and hints of beeswax and walnut skin. The palate is sharp, with a vertical acidity reminiscent of chalk. The texture is dense but vibrant, with a delicate bitterness and a long, mineral, almost electric finish. A white wine without concessions to easy fruit, deeply linked to the Priorat soil. A terroir white wine that is all character.
