Description
When Olivier Rivière came to Rioja from France, he came with a clear idea: to reveal the character of the landscape over style. Trained in Burgundy, his approach is more about the vineyard than the winery. He soon moved away from conventional Rioja and opted for organic and biodynamic viticulture, working small plots with minimal intervention and spontaneous fermentations. This is how Olivier Rivière Trotamundos Blanco was born, a wine that changes every year, reflecting the vintage, the place and the winemaker's intuition.
Winemaking
Olivier Rivière Trotamundos Blanco is made with equal parts Viura and Maturana Blanca from vineyards in La Rioja Alta, between 550 and 600 metres above sea level. The red clay soils with calcareous veins mark the character of the wine: austere, fresh and tense. Each variety is vinified separately, fermented with indigenous yeasts in large French oak vats and concrete tanks, without prolonged vatting or aggressive extractions. SO₂ is kept to a minimum, and bottling seeks to preserve the wine's energy rather than polish.
Taste
Olivier Rivière Trotamundos Blanco is a Rioja white wine out of the norm. Its nose is restrained but intriguing: dried flowers, pollen, raw almond, fennel and very subtle white fruit. The palate is dry, broad and saline, with a firm acidity reminiscent of the edge of a lime. The finish is long and mineral, with notes of chalk, citrus peel and a slight elegant bitterness that lengthens it. This is not an indulgent wine, but a thoughtful, almost raw wine that invites more to think than to celebrate.
