Description

Mas Doix Poboleda Vi de Vila was born in Poboleda, when Valentí and Ramón Llagostera decided that the Priorat was not only about muscle, but also about pulse and truth. In 1998, instead of chasing fashions, they clung to the family land and the old vines of the village, convinced that greatness is in the detail: recovering plots and voices, and bottling the character of an entire village. In a region where new wood can be tempting, their courageous decision was the opposite: to prioritise identity and precision, even reorienting vineyards so that the Garnacha would rule. Here, the landscape is not a background: it is the script. Vines from 20 to 50 years old are planted on slopes and terraces of licorella slate, a black, laminated rock that forces the vines to fight for water and depth. The Altura Mediterranean climate, with cooler nights, rounds off a fresh, elegant and persistent style. Varietal: 100% Garnacha.

Winemaking

At Mas Doix Poboleda Vi de Vila, with organic viticulture, the grapes are harvested by hand and selected twice (vineyard and winery) before destemming 100% of the bunches. Then comes the fine obsession: selection berry by berry. One part ferments in stainless steel to preserve tension and crisp fruit, the other in concrete tanks to gain texture without make-up. After two weeks of gentle maceration, it is pressed and only the most delicate part of the wine is kept. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine is placed in concrete eggs, where it is aged for 4 to 6 months before bottling.

Taste

In the glass, Mas Doix Poboleda Vi de Vila opens with a Priorat minerality that smells of hot stone and undergrowth: thyme, rosemary, a touch of balsamic. Then red fruit emerges with phyllo-cherry, raspberry and a touch of orange peel and fine spices. The palate is surprisingly vertical: it enters silky, but the acidity tightens it up and makes it vibrate. Polished, tactile tannin, no sharp edges; a juicy, precise centre, with that earthy salinity of the licorella that dries your tongue just enough to ask for another sip. Long, clean finish, of an organic red wine with elegance and persistence rather than weight.
