Description

Christian Tschida Birdscape is a wine that stands out for its peculiar winemaking method, called by Christian as Pink Maceration. This process consists of a very light extraction with only a little contact with the skins, resulting in a very dark rosé or, perhaps, a very light red wine. The wine label features artwork created by Erró.

Winemaking

The grapes used to make this wine are 40 years old. As for the varieties, it is composed of Blaufrankisch, Pinot Noir and some white varieties. These grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and crushed with the feet. The must ferments in large vats with indigenous yeasts and without racking and then ages for 12 months in the same vats. Christian produced only one 3,000-litre foudre of this wine. It is also bottled without sulphur, reflecting a commitment to natural, additive-free production.

Taste

The Pink Maceration method gives Christian Tschida Birdscape a unique flavour profile. It has an aromatic bouquet with notes of cherry, basil and pepper. On the palate, flavours of cherry, blueberry, blackberry, rhubarb and porcini mushroom unfold. It is a delicate wine with soft tannins, a spark of effervescence and a minerality reminiscent of marble. The finish is earthy, with red forest fruits and wild spices. Despite its lightness and freshness, Birdscape has surprising depth.
