Description

In 2016, young winemaker Lori Haon settled in Valliguières, in the Gard department of France. At just 23 years old and after training in wine regions such as Burgundy, Alsace and Champagne, Lori found a wine estate of about 15 hectares in a state of neglect. In the early years, she worked tirelessly to restore the vines, discovering centuries-old Cariñena and Garnacha vines in the undergrowth. Today, he tends his vineyards following the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture, with Demeter certification. In the winery, vinification is carried out naturally, without oenological products, using indigenous yeasts and minimal or zero doses of sulphur, without filtration or clarification.

Winemaking

Le Petit Oratoire Loratoire is made mainly with Cinsault and Garnacha grapes from vines 45 to 50 years old. The vineyards are planted on grey and pink marl soils, facing south-east at an altitude of 300 metres, in the lieu-dit "L'Oratoire", the original terroir of the estate.

The grapes are harvested by hand in whole bunches and undergo light crushing, followed by a short maceration of 2 to 3 days before gentle pressing in a wooden press. Fermentation is spontaneous, carried out by indigenous yeasts in concrete tanks. The wine does not undergo fining or filtration, and no sulphur is added at any stage of the process.

Taste

Le Petit Oratoire Loratoire exhibits a bright colour with notes of ripe raspberry and cherry. The characteristic depth and complexity come from the low yielding loam and clay soils. It is a light, perfectly balanced and fluid wine with a solid cellaring potential of 4 to 7 years. The tannins are silky, providing a smooth and enveloping texture on the palate. The freshness and persistence on the palate reflect the philosophy of minimal intervention and respect for the terroir that characterises Domaine du Petit Oratoire.
