Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
I found the unoaked 2020 Mataborricos to be the finest bottling to date of this characterful red, the darkest of them all, as it's not a pure Garnacha. In fact, there's less Garnacha this year, as they got together all the other varieties found in different vineyards (Listán Prieto, Morate, Vidadillo and even white varieties). A higher percentage of the wine matured in concrete instead of tinaja, and the concrete vats have tighter closures than the tinajas, so the wines end up being less oxidative. The wine is crunchier and more precise, cleaner even, and with more marked character. It keeps the path of the 2019 but with the help of a fresher year. It's only 12.8% alcohol, quite different from the other reds. 2,353 bottles.

Description
Comando G Mataborricos wine is a unique expression of the Sierra de Gredos, an emerging wine region that, despite not yet having its own denomination of origin (DO), has gained recognition in recent years. This wine is a project of Dani Landi and Fernando Garcia, considered among the most interesting producers in Spain today.
The Sierra de Gredos, located west of Madrid, is known for its vineyards located at high altitudes, typically between 800 and 1200 metres above sea level. These vineyards extend in difficult to cultivate terraces along the slopes of the Alberche river valley. The region is characterised by its granite and slate soil, which contributes to the uniqueness of its wines.
Garnacha is the predominant grape variety in Comando G Mataborricos, a choice that reflects the recent evolution of this grape variety in Spain. Previously associated with wines of high alcohol content and questionable quality, Garnacha has experienced a renaissance thanks to producers who focus on creating more balanced, less ripe wines. This variety especially benefits from the wide temperature variations between day and night at high altitudes, which helps preserve its acidity.
Winemaking
Comando G Mataborricos is made using minimally invasive methods. Whole bunches with their stems are used, fermented with indigenous yeasts. Ageing is carried out in large neutral oak barrels, with the lees, to add complexity without dominating the fruity character of the wine.
Taste
Comando G Mataborricos is distinguished by its cherry and strawberry aroma, with a slightly dusty touch. Initially, it can present a certain volatility, which quickly dissipates when the wine is aerated. On the palate, it is markedly fruity and acidic, offering remarkable freshness. The tannins are light but crisp, and the wine maintains an admirable balance, with a vigorous and persistent aftertaste.
