Description
Vino di Anna Jeudi 15 is an authentic expression of Sicily's volcanic terroir. This wine comes from Nerello Mascalese grapes grown organically in various vineyards, specifically from 80-90 year old vineyards located in the beautiful region of MonteLaguardia. These vineyards are situated at altitudes ranging from 800 to 840 metres, on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, between Passopisciaro and Randazzo. The main composition is Nerello Mascalese, but small proportions of Nerello Cappuccio and Alicante (Grenache) are also co-planted, following the tradition of the area.
The name"Jeudi 15" is due to the date of the first vintage in which this wine was produced, Thursday 15 October 2009. "Jeudi" means Thursday in French. Winemaking
Winemaking
The harvest took place in the second week of October. The grapes, in perfect condition, were harvested by hand and brought to the winery in Solicchiata. Seventy percent of the grapes were manually destemmed in a 3,000-litre open wooden fermenter, while the rest were added in whole bunches. Fermentation was carried out spontaneously by indigenous yeasts without temperature control. After 14 days, the fermenting must was pressed. The wine then underwent malolactic fermentation and remained on fine lees in large used oak barrels before being blended and bottled in May. This wine was neither clarified nor filtered.
Taste
Vino di Anna Jeudi 15 displays aromas of red cherries, wild raspberries and delicate white flowers. The palate is juicy, medium-bodied and savoury, with bright red fruits and spices. The tannins are fine and austere, and the finish is mineral and lingering, characteristic of wines from volcanic soils.
