Description
In 2006, Pierre Morey acquired a small but strategic 0.4 ha plot in Meursault, just between two Premier Cru: Goutte d'Or and Clos de Mazeray. The name of the site - LesTerres Blanches -alludes to its soil: chalky, shallow, cold, with a natural mineral tension that the wine reflects faithfully. The plot, planted in 1988, is farmed according to organic and biodynamic principles, practices Morey adopted long before they became commonplace, convinced that the soul of the wine is born from the vitality of the soil rather than from cellar intervention.
Winemaking
After a meticulous manual harvest, the Chardonnay grapes destined for Pierre Morey Meursault Les Terres Blanches are gently pressed in a pneumatic press. The must is cold settled for 12 to 24 hours and fermented on fine lees in oak barrels (20-50% new, depending on the vintage), where it also undergoes malolactic fermentation. The ageing process lasts between 16 and 20 months. If necessary, the wine is filtered and clarified minimally before bottling by gravity, without pumping, respecting its integrity as much as possible.
Taste
Pierre Morey Meursault Les Terres Blanches has a restrained but profound nose: ripe white fruits (pear, nectarine), citrus zest and a subtle floral note. There are also nuances of fresh butter, raw almond and wet stone. On the palate, the attack is direct, with a vibrant acidity that structures the wine and enhances its mineral character. The oak is perfectly integrated, adding volume and a creamy texture without stealing the limelight. The finish is long, with echoes of candied lemon, dried flowers and a lingering saline trace. A Meursault of austere elegance and millimetric precision, revealing the purity of its origin with no need to show off.
