Description

In the heart of Meursault, Pierre Morey devotedly cultivates one of the most emblematic plots of land in the commune: Perrières Dessous. This small clos of just 0.52 ha is located at the bottom of the hillside, right on the border with Puligny-Montrachet. Protected from the wind and bathed in sunshine, the vineyard sits on an exceptionally stony soil, a former quarry bed, which reflects the heat and concentrates the minerality. The Chardonnay vines, planted in 1968, dig deep into this chalky subsoil, giving rise to a wine of surprising verticality.

Since the late 1990s, Pierre Morey has been applying certified biodynamic principles to all his vineyards, seeking a living balance between plant, soil and cosmos. His philosophy of minimum intervention and maximum respect for the expression of the terroir is faithfully transferred to the winemaking process.

Winemaking

The grapes that give life to the Pierre Morey Meursault Perrières 1er Cru are gently pressed in a pneumatic press, the must is left to settle for 12 to 24 hours and ferments on its fine lees in barrels (between 20% and 50% new oak, depending on the vintage). Ageing lasts 16 to 20 months without bâtonnage, allowing the wine to retain all its natural tension. Bottling is carried out by gravity, without pumping over.

Taste

Pierre Morey Meursault Perrières 1er Cru is mineral, precise and elegant. The nose opens with notes of riffle stone, wet limestone and a touch of citrus zest. Nothing is exuberant; everything is restraint and filigree. The palate is taut and direct, with pronounced acidity and firm texture. Notes of bitter almond, dried white flower and candied lemon slowly emerge. The minerality dominates, sharp and persistent. A Meursault of great purity, made for cellaring, that speaks with the raw voice of its soil.
