Description
Peternell 2 Year Bender is an exceptional creation of Kollektiv Peternell. This wine comes from two small plots and two different vintages. It is composed of 33% Merlot from 40 year old vineyards on gravel soils and 67% Syrah grown on clay and gravel from 20 year old vineyards near the Neuseidl am See lake.
Winemaking
The Merlot was macerated for three weeks on its skins, while the Syrah was macerated with whole bunches for four days. Both fermented with indigenous yeasts in old 225-litre barrels. The ageing was carried out in 225-litre wooden barrels until the end of September, which gives it a unique structure and character.
Taste
Peternell 2 Year Bender presents itself as a red wine in the Italian ripasso style, but with the drinkability of a Jura. It is a wine that exudes notes of spring fruits and has a slightly acidic touch.
