Description

Louis Latour Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru is a classic expression of the great white wines ofBurgundy, born of the vision of a historic house founded in 1797 and deeply rooted in viticulture and coopering. With this wine, Louis Latour seeks to accurately capture the essence of Chassagne Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune, by selecting Premier Cru plots with excellent sun exposure to achieve perfect ripeness without losing freshness or minerality. The winery operates on a philosophy of respect for the terroir, relying on the character of the limestone and clay soil, vines aged around 30 years, and a hand-harvest that preserves the purity of the fruit. Made from 100% Chardonnay, this wine epitomises the nobility of a legendary appellation, where tradition, soil and a cool climate converge to produce whites of immense depth and elegance.

Production

The production of Louis Latour Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru follows a traditional and meticulous approach. The grapes are harvested by hand and taken to the winery to ferment in oak barrels, a classic method for the great white wines of Burgundy. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in full, refining the acidity and imparting a more enveloping texture. The wine is then aged for between 8 and 10 months in medium-toasted French oak barrels from Louis Latour’s own cooperage, with 50 per cent new oak. This ageing process does not seek to mask the wine, but rather to enhance its structure, refine its body and add complexity without overshadowing the terroir’s identity. Bottling takes place when the fruit, oak and minerality have reached a precise balance.

Taste

In the glass, Louis Latour Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru reveals aromas of fresh almond, toasted hazelnut, brioche and delicate vanilla, followed by notes of yellow fruit, acacia honey and ripe citrus. On the palate, it is full-bodied, silky and generous, but a mineral edge soon emerges, refining the overall profile. The oak is well-integrated, adding depth, a subtle smoky undertone and a hint of nuts. The finish is long, elegant and briny, with hints of candied lemon, delicate butter and damp limestone. A serious, refined and deeply gastronomic white wine.
