This edition, La Bota de Grain Whisky 105 "Bota NO", is not the result of marketing or chance, but of a firm decision: to bottle the extraordinary without concessions.
La Bota de Grain Whisky 105 Bota NO is made entirely from malted grain, mostly maize, grown on Castilian land and distilled with a clarity of purpose reminiscent of the most classic methods. But its true character is defined in the silence of the ageing process: sixteen years of ageing, twelve of which have been spent in a single cask of old dry oloroso. A cask that was once part of a prestigious Jerez solera and which has left an indelible mark of salinity, noble wood and oxidative complexity on this distillate.
Elaboration
This is an authentic single cask, bottled without cold filtration, no additives, no colouring, no added sweetness. Nothing but distillate at its most honest and mature. Part of this cask was initially destined for the US market, in 75cl bottles, under edition no. 89. Now, what was left of that same cask has been bottled almost entirely to make La Bota de Grain Whisky 105 Bota NO, sealing a final chapter in the life of that wood.
Flavour
On the nose, La Bota de Grain Whisky 105 Bota NO is austere but deeply expressive: nuts, orange peel, black tea, toasted caramel and a subtle echo of sweet spice. There is a tension between dry and enveloping, between the warmth of cereal and the restraint of old sherry. The palate is firm, with a silky texture, a long passage and marked salinity. Notes of dry vanilla, blond tobacco, bitter almonds and even a slightly smoky background. Everything is where it should be, no excesses, no frills.
