Description

Ginglinger Stein begins with an intuition: Jean-François Ginglinger, heir to a deeply rooted winemaking tradition in Eguisheim, wanted to explore the expressive limits of his plots in the Steinert Grand Cru. In an unorthodox gesture in Alsace, he decided to make a wine from 80% macerated Pinot Gris and 20% Pinot Noir, creating an ethereal, light and tremendously drinkable profile. The name " Stein " - stone in German - is no coincidence: it pays homage to the stony, chalky soil that defines the vineyard's identity.

This unusual blend comes from vines grown in biodynamic agriculture on oolitic soils rich in limestone, with strong sun exposure and a continental climate with marked temperature fluctuations. It is a wine that does not seek immediate impact, but rather the silent depth of the earth.

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested by hand. The Pinot Gris is macerated briefly on its skins, gaining colour, texture and subtle structure. The Pinot Noir is fermented separately with indigenous yeasts in neutral containers. After fermentation, the two wines are blended and rest together on fine lees for a few months, without aggressive filtration or significant addition of sulphites. The result is Ginglinger Stein, a lively, honest, minimal intervention wine that faithfully reflects its origin and the character of the vineyard.

Taste

In the glass, Ginglinger Stein is translucent, with faint pink reflections. The nose evokes ripe pear, quince peel, delicate red fruits and an austere minerality. There are echoes of citrus - grapefruit, candied lemon - and soft herbal notes, such as white tea or acacia blossom. On the palate, it is fresh and subtle: the acidity is precise, the texture silky, with a juicy centre reminiscent of macerated Pinot Gris, while the Pinot Noir adds tension and nerve. The finish is saline, almost umami, with a mineral trail that invites another sip. A wine for those seeking purity, lightness and truth in the glass.
