Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2023 Le Bastard Trousseau is pale, delicate, floral and aromatic, reflecting the fresher style of the reds in the vintage, with a contained 12.5% alcohol. It was produced with the old Trousseau à la Dame grapes, a massal selection planted in 2006 on land that had Savagnin before in two lieux-dits, Aux Loges and Aux Barbi, on Lias marl and some limestone soils. It had a shorter maceration of only 10 days, and is fresh and drinkable but with seriousness. 4,000 bottles produced.

Description
In the quiet hills of Montigny-lès-Arsures, in the deep Jura, Raphael Fumey and Adeline Chatelain bring to life a precise and unvarnished vision of the Trousseau. Fumey Chatelain Le Bastard Trousseau was born from two historic sites - Les Loges and Aux Barbis - where Savagnin was once cultivated. There, on soils of Lias marl and compact clays, Trousseau à la Dame vines have been growing since 2006, a delicate, almost extinct masal selection, which they decided to revive with a silent but firm conviction.
Winemaking
Fumey Chatelain Le Bastardo Trousseau is made by hand harvesting and certified organic cultivation (Ecocert), with Guyot-Poussard pruning that respects the balance of the plant. The wine ferments spontaneously withindigenous yeasts after a 20-day maceration with 100% destemming, extracting finesse without aggressiveness. It is aged for 12 months in stainless steel tanks, keeping the varietal freshness intact. Finally, it is bottled without fining or filtering, preserving all the expression of the vineyard.
Taste
Fumey Chatelain Le Bastard Trousseau is a wine of tension and transparency. Subtle aromas of fresh black cherry, wild strawberry and a hint of menthol are reminiscent of a walk in the woods after the rain. The palate is ethereal, with very fine tannins, crisp acidity and an almost airy texture. There is no weight, but there is depth. Long finish, with notes of damp earth, dried petals and a mineral echo that lingers. It does not seek to impose itself, but to seduce from silence. A Trousseau of purity and elegance, perfect for those who value the essential.
