Description

Danjou Banessy Clot Dels Escounils is a rarity born of faith in time and the land. In a walled corner of the Côtes du Roussillon, surrounded by garrigue and silence, the Danjou brothers decided to bring back to life an ancient plot with centuries-old Garnacha Blanca, Gris and Negra vines. Cultivated in limestone and pink shale soil, these vines are grown organically, without chemicals, and with a minimalist approach that prioritises the pure expression of the terroir. To go for a white from this enclave - where the wind dominates and the sun is raw - was a bold decision. But the result is a wine that speaks the language of the soil: tense, mineral, deep.

Winemaking

Vinification at Danjou Banessy Clot Dels Escounils follows the same principle of minimal intervention: the grapes are pressed together, white and red, without destemming. Spontaneous fermentation starts with indigenous yeasts, without additives or corrections. The ageing process lasts between 18 and 20 months in large used foudres, without bâtonage or overpowering wood. The wine is bottled without filtering or fining, in order to preserve texture and natural energy. Each step is guided by the lunar calendar and unusual patience.

Taste

On the nose, Danjou Banessy Clot Dels Escounils is complex and changing: white flower, citrus peel, bitter almond, wet stone, with echoes of Mediterranean vegetation. The palate is broad but tense: an incisive acidity supports the subtle fruit - grapefruit , pear, candied lemon - and a saline background reminiscent of sea air. The finish is long, dry, with notes of limestone and fine smoke. It does not seek to please with exuberance, but to conquer with precision and character. A white with the soul of a red, ideal for dishes with strength and nuances: oily fish, baked poultry, washed rind cheeses. A wine for those who love the mineral truth of wine.
