Description
Danjou Banessy Les Mirandes is a luminous rarity in the Roussillon landscape. From Espira de l'Agly, brothers Benoît and Sébastien have transformed the heritage of their grandfather - producer of sweet oxidative wines - into a radically pure vision: dry, biodynamic wines without make-up. Les Mirandes is born of this philosophy. A single plot Syrah, grown on volcanic soils and dark basalt, it captures the tension between Mediterranean climate and Pyrenean freshness. The winery works exclusively with indigenous yeasts and minimally interventionist practices, letting the earth speak without filters.
Winemaking
Danjou Banessy Les Mirandes is made from Syrah that is completely destemmed and fermented spontaneously, without the addition of oenological products. The maceration, long and slow (around 28 to 30 days), is carried out with a gentle extraction process, seeking structure without harshness. The wine is then aged for 24 to 36 months in used French oak barrels, which allows for rounding off without the use of new wood. It is bottled with minimal intervention, often without fining or filtering.
Taste
Danjou Banessy Les Mirandes is a Syrah that does not shout, but whispers with mineral precision. On the nose, it reveals black cherries, violets and a slight spicy background. The fruit is clean, not overripe, and enveloped in a subtle structure with an almost volcanic saline tension. The texture is ethereal, almost aerial, and although its ageing suggests density, what prevails is a surprising freshness. On the palate, it flows with lively acidity, fine tannins and a persistence that does not overwhelm, but fascinates. Les Mirandes is a wine for those who seek purity and truth in the glass, a Mediterranean Syrah with an athletic soul and mineral nerve.
