Description
Christian Tschida Non Tradition White is a wine that represents a unique fusion of two Grüner Veltliner vineyards, aiming to express the complexity of the limestone of one old vineyard with the schist soil of the other. Christian Tschida mentions that, although the temptation to bottle these wines separately was great, blending them together seems to expand their aromatic dimension many times over, adding layers and length on the palate. The resulting equation is clearly 1+1=3.
Winemaking
The grapes used for this wine are Grüner Veltliner, sourced from vineyards with an average age of 40 years. These Veltliner vineyards are characterised by limestone, schist and quartz soils. In the winemaking process, the grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and crushed with the feet. The musts ferment separately in vats with indigenous yeasts and without racking. Some fudres remain in contact with the skins for a short period of time. They then spend a year ageing in oak vats and are blended before bottling without fining, filtering or sulphur addition.
Taste
Christian Tschida Non Tradition White features notes of candied lemon and orange; baked apple with fresh pepper and herbal aromas, mint, a touch of liquorice and vanilla. The palate is nutty with hints of honey, very juicy, rich and fresh. It is also herbal and creamy at the same time, with an exceptional balance. Saline and flinty notes are perceived, along with rich aromas of orange peel, mandarin and peach. Flavours of pear, kiwi and pineapple can also be identified. The finish is long and prominent, with a distinctly mineral character.
