Description
In the heart of Alsace, protected by the Vosges and bathed by a dry and luminous climate, Bott-Geyl has built an identity based on purity and absolute respect for the land. Jean-Christophe Bott was one of the pioneers of biodynamic viticulture in Alsace, convinced that this was the only way to reveal the mineral vibrancy of its granite and limestone soils. This determination marked the style of the house: precision, energy and authenticity.
Bott-Geyl Alsace Métiss was born as a tribute to regional diversity. This white wine from Alsace is a blend where Riesling and Gewürztraminer dialogue naturally, seeking balance between tension and aromatic expressiveness. The vines, rooted in poor, stony soils, offer low yields and elegant concentration. There is no easy exuberance here; there is character, definition and a clear imprint of the terroir, making this dry Alsatian wine a benchmark of contemporary style.
Winemaking
At Bott-Geyl Alsace Métiss, the grapes are harvested by hand, with strict selection in the vineyard. The grapes are gently pressed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks and large traditional foudres. This combination preserves the aromatic clarity and adds depth without marking the wine with wood, respecting the identity of the French biodynamic wine.
The wine remains on its fine lees for several months, gaining texture and complexity. No artifice is sought: minimal intervention, light filtering and bottling respectful of the wine's natural rhythm. The result is a dry and mineral white wine, structured and vibrant, a true reflection of the character of Bott-Geyl Alsace Métiss.
Taste
Bott-Geyl Alsace Métiss is expressive but refined on the nose. Fresh citrus fruits - lemon, grapefruit - appear alongside green apple and crisp pear. The Gewürztraminer brings a subtle nuance of lychee and rose petals, always restrained. All enveloped in a clear mineral, almost stony sensation, with a slight smoky echo that defines this mineral white wine from Alsace.
The palate is dry and direct. The acidity, lively and precise, tightens the whole and gives it a sharp profile. The texture, slightly enveloping due to the work on the lees, balances the linear energy that runs through the palate. Notes of lime, bitter mandarin and a delicate spicy touch lead to a saline and persistent finish. An elegant and fresh white wine, with nerve, identity and a freshness that always invites another sip.
