Description
Alexandre Bain is more than a winemaker; he is a rebel with a cause in the land of Sauvignon Blanc. From his winery in Tracy-sur-Loire, in the heart of Pouilly Fumé, he defies convention with a purist philosophy: manual harvesting, minimal intervention and absolute respect for the biodiversity of his vineyards. His wine Champ Couturier comes from vines over 40 years old, deeply rooted in chalky soils that bring an unmistakable minerality. Bain, a fervent advocate of biodynamics, has been a pioneer in demonstrating that Sauvignon Blanc can achieve authentic expression without artifice, without the need for the AOC he once decided to abandon.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand at optimum ripeness and gently pressed to extract only the purest must. Fermentation is spontaneous, carried out by indigenous yeasts in large wooden barrels (foudres), thus respecting the identity of the vineyard. The wine matures for 13 months in these foudres, without fining or filtration, and without the addition of sulphites, resulting in an authentic representation of Sauvignon Blanc and its terroir.
Taste
The first taste of Alexandre Bain Champ Couturier is a hit of purity:
notes of ripe pear, quince and white flowers, intertwined with a vibrant mineral tension. On the palate, the silky texture and perfectly integrated acidity create a masterful balance between opulence and freshness. The long, enveloping finish leaves a trace of wet limestone, citrus zest and a subtle hint of honey.
