Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2021 Lg. Valbuxan was produced with the field blend of multiple red and white varieties—Mencía, Merenzao, Sousón, Garnacha, Godello, Brancellao and others. It finished with 13% alcohol and a pH of 3.88, but the wine feels light and fresh, reflecting this 'Atlantic' vintage. It fermented in stainless steel and oak vats and matured for 15 months in large oak foudres of 1,500 and 2,000 liters. It has the nose and the character common to the other reds, with notes of acid berries and wild herbs, high-pitched and aromatic. It has a juicy, medium-bodied palate with fine tannins and a mellow mouthfeel. It's the textbook expression of Mencía in the granite soils, very much the character of this zone of Valdeorras. 14,145 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2023.

Description
A few years ago, while exploring the heart of Valdeorras, Telmo Rodríguez and his team found the old LG Valbuxán pazo, a century-old building with vineyards on steep slopes and poor granite soils. Restoring it was not just a work of art, it was a declaration of intent: to recover the heroic viticulture of villages like O Bolo, As Ermidas and Santa Cruz, and to give a voice to the red varieties that have grown there for generations. Thus was born Telmo Rodríguez LG Valbuxan, a Galician red wine made from Mencía, Brancellao, Sousón and Garnacha Tintorera, grown in goblet-trained vines under an organic regime, without irrigation or artifice. In this high and austere part of the Valdeorras DO, the Atlantic climate with mountain influences gives the wines a unique tension and verticality.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, with selection in the field and minimal intervention in the winery. In the elaboration of Telmo Rodríguez LG Valbuxan, the grapes are fermented with indigenous yeasts, without corrections or additions, seeking an honest expression of the Galician terroir. The ageing takes place for 15 months in used oak casks and barrels, which are refined without imposition. It is not excessively filtered or aggressively clarified, maintaining the wine's original character.
Taste
On the nose, Telmo Rodríguez LG Valbuxan offers a sober and elegant palette: fresh red fruit, floral notes of dried rose, undergrowth and a suggestive minerality reminiscent of wet stone. The palate is agile, with fine tannins, marked acidity and a freshness that makes it vibrant. The profile is more Atlantic than warm, with layers of sour cherry, damp earth and very subtle spices from the ageing. The finish is long, clean, with a saline aftertaste that reaffirms its origin. An austere red wine from Galicia, precise and deeply linked to its landscape.
