Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
There was some hail in Toro in 2020 that didn't affect the grapes too much for the 2020 Gago, sourced from the villages of Argujillo (later to ripen), Villabuena del Puente and Morales de Toro. It fermented in stainless steel and oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in foudre (80%) and barrique for 14 months. It's ripe without excess, classical Toro, with 14.5% alcohol and notes of licorice and black fruit, from a normal year. It feels a little fresher than the 2019, juicy, with fine tannins and good balance, powerful but balanced, still quite young. 40,163 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2022.

Description
Gago is a representative wine of the Toro region, produced by the Compañía de Telmo Rodríguez. This wine is made from old vines of low density, mostly of the Tinta de Toro variety with a small proportion of Albillo Mayor. The grapes come from 21 plots located in Grulla, Teso del Hierro and Casa Blanca, in the villages of Argujillo, Villabuena and Morales de Toro.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand in boxes, ensuring a careful selection of the grapes. Fermentation is carried out in wooden and stainless steel tanks of 6,000 kilograms. Ageing is 14 months, with 80% in foudres and 20% in barrels.
Taste
Gago red wine stands out for its elegance and balance. In the tasting, a combination of finesse and power is perceived, with a juicy and exuberant flavour. The tannins are abundant and grainy, adding a robust structure to the wine. We recommend serving it at a temperature of 16ºC to fully appreciate its characteristics. This wine is ideal to accompany powerful foods that can complement its concentration and richness. Gago is defined by seeking elegance over strength, resulting in a racial and sophisticated wine that reflects the care and tradition in its elaboration.
