Description
Philine Isabelle Barbera d'Alba wine originates from the Piedmont region of Italy, specifically from Monforte d'Alba, an area recognised by the protected designation of origin DOP Barbera d'Alba. This wine is distinguished by its intense red colour and is made mainly from the Barbera grape variety, from the grapes of its neighbour Roberto Forno.
Winemaking
The winemaking of this wine is carried out with an organic approach, incorporating Philine's own biodynamic efforts. It is produced in Marta and Carlotta Rinaldi's cellar. The process begins with a complete destemming of the grapes, followed by a spontaneous fermentation with skin maceration that lasts twelve days. During the first days of fermentation, the wine is pumped over a couple of times a day and, towards the end of fermentation, a gentle pigage is carried out. Subsequently, it undergoes malolactic fermentation and is aged for seventeen months in stainless steel tanks and 1,000-litre oak barrels. Finally, it is bottled without clarification or prior filtration. In terms of additives, a small amount of sulphur is added to the destemmed grapes and during the winemaking process, totalling approximately 40 mg/l of sulphur.
Taste
Philine Isabelle Barbera d'Alba delights us with a fragrance that evokes violets, lavender and cyclamen. It has a deep, sweet, vinous aroma intermixed with notes of graphite, iron and white pepper. On the palate, fresh flavours of cherry and blackberry are evident. The taste is dry, energetic and vertical, but then expands horizontally with a calibrated density.
