Description
Philine Isabelle Langhe Nebbiolo is made with grapes from the Castagni estate, La Morra and is labelled with the Langhe DOP designation of origin. Its intense red colour is a reflection of the Nebbiolo grape variety, a fruit acquired from Luigi and Massimo Veglio. This variety, grown on land with an eastern exposure at altitudes varying between 370 and 455 metres, benefits from soils rich in calcareous marl.
Winemaking
The production of this wine is carried out under an organic perspective, integrating biodynamic practices characteristic of Philine. Its creation takes place in the cellars of Marta and Carlotta Rinaldi. The process begins with the total separation of the stems from the grapes, followed by a natural fermentation with a period of maceration of the skins that lasts twelve days. In the first stages of fermentation, the must is pumped over daily and, as it nears the end of this process, a light pigmentation is applied. It then undergoes malolactic fermentation and matures for seventeen months in stainless steel containers and 1,000-litre oak barrels. At the end, it is bottled without fining or filtering. As regards additives, a minimum dose of sulphur is added to the grapes after destemming and during the winemaking process, reaching a total of around 40 mg/l.
Taste
Philine Isabelle Langhe Nebbiolo has a light body and a solid structure, offering remarkable purity. However, the palate leans towards a sensation of harshness and stiffness. It is stiff and extremely dry, showing iron and bitter notes in the middle and finish, accompanied by a subtle saline touch and rough tannins. Its aroma is dusty and tense, with a peculiar note of sea water and subtle hints of blood, iron and old velvet clothes.
