There is a sense of contained ripeness in the 2022 Pegaso Arrebatacapas, and I had the feeling that 2022 is the year this single-vineyard bottling shows best and above the rest of wines from the year. Despite having higher alcohol (15.4%), the pH is lower (3.32) and the acidity higher (6.03), but it comes through as very balanced. In 2022, the plants got blocked and the cycle was shorter and didn't have time to burn the acidity. All the 2022s are riper and have a sense of ripe berries, but within them, Arrebatacapas has the most elegant, profound and subtle nose and personality. It has the juiciness of ripe Garnacha but with the stony austerity of the soils. 3,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2024.

Fermented and aged with indigenous yeasts and partially destemmed grapes in oak barrels, stainless steel tanks and clay pots. Aged for up to 18 months in 500 and 600 litre oak barrels.

Description

Pegaso Arrebatacapas is a wine that comes from an exceptional vineyard located on the slopes of Arrebatacapas, at an altitude of 1050 metres, in the region of Cebreros. This vineyard, planted in 1953, is characterised by its impressive Garnacha vines and a slate soil crossed by quartz veins, which gives a remarkable singularity to the wine.

Winemaking

The grapes, not fully destemmed, are fermented with indigenous yeasts and undergo a long maceration before gentle ageing in used 600-litre barrels for about a year. This careful, artisanal winemaking process results in a unique wine that represents the purest expression of the Gredos slate.

Taste

Pegaso Arrebatacapas has remarkable depth and complexity, with balanced nuances that combine flowers, berries and herbs, resulting in a very attractive aromatic profile. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with very round tannins that provide a smooth and pleasant texture. This balance between freshness, complexity and smooth tannins makes Pegaso Arrebatacapas a unique and pleasurable sensory experience.
