Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2021 Falcoeira A Capilla was produced with the red grapes that were picked after September 10, a field blend of Mencía, Brancellao, Sousón, Garnacha Tintorera and other grapes from 45 terraces of a south-facing slope at 400 to 600 meters in altitude. It fermented in 3,000-liter oak vats and matured in 2,000-liter oak foudre. This bottling has been gaining in character as the vines age (they are still very young, close to 18 years now). It has a lifted nose with a volatile touch and is aromatic, heady and rich with elegance. It has grip, depth and expression of the deep granite minerality. It's medium-bodied with juicy tannins and a bitter twist in the finish. It has a character somewhere between Valbuxan and Falcoeira. 3,917 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2023.

Description
Falcoeira A Capilla is a wine that faithfully represents an old and recovered vineyard that was the most valuable and recognised by the local winegrowers of the Bibei river area. It is an intense and deep wine, just like the place it comes from. The growing area is Ladeiras do Bibei(Valdeorras), in the village of Santa Cruz, in the area of Falcoeira. The grape varieties used include Mencía, Brancellao, Sousón, Garnacha Tintorera and others. The vineyard is organically farmed, with goblet pruning and manual harvesting in boxes. The soils are located between 400 and 600 metres above sea level, on narrow, steep terraces with steep south-facing slopes, acidic and coarse-textured, developed from granites (granodiorites).
Elaboration
The wine is made with indigenous yeasts in a 3,000-litre wooden vat and aged in a 2,000-litre oak foudre.
Taste
Falcoeira A Capilla stands out for having a nose with notes of ripe berries, hints of soy sauce and iodine. On the palate, it is a juicy and tasty wine, rich in deep flavours and with a long and persistent finish. This wine has a fascinating bouquet of red wild berries and red wild flowers, with a meaty reduction and a fine touch of bitterness that give it a very special savoury flavour. It has an elegant underbush similar to that of a Pinot Noir and offers a long and linear taste experience.
