Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 A Senda Vermella was produced with 57% Mencía, 24% Espadeiro and 19% Caíño, and despite the pale color, it's probably the darkest of the 2022 reds. It's spicy, floral, aromatic and light, with 10.1% alcohol. It is fresh and tasty, with a vibrant palate that feels quite stony. 4,041 bottles and 40 magnums produced. It was bottled in July 2023.

Winemaking
Fermented with indigenous yeasts, whole grape harvest (100% stems) and 21 days maceration in plastic vats. Malolactic fermentation 65% in French oak barrels and 35% in stainless steel tanks. Aged on lees for 11 months. Bottled unfined and lightly filtered.
Description
There are wines that are born as gestures of resistance. Such is Nanclares y Prieto A Senda Vermella, a quiet but firm statement by Nanclares y Prieto from the heart of Val do Salnés, in the Rías Baixas. In a region dominated by Atlantic whites, this red comes from intuition and listening: what if the indigenous red varieties also deserve their place in the conversation? This is how this wine was born, from small trials and the conviction that identity is not imposed, it is discovered. An anecdote sums it up well: in the middle of the harvest, a dense fog prevented the use of vehicles. Prieto decided to load the crates on foot, with patience and determination, as if each bunch had a unique destiny. That philosophy runs through every bottle.
The blend of **Nanclares and Prieto A Senda Vermella **is as precise as it is intentional: 67% Mencía, 23% Caiño and 10% Espadeiro, grown in eight plots spread throughout the valley, with vines ranging from 5 to 95 years old. The soils are sandy loam on granite, draining, poor, but full of mineral energy. Here, the vineyards are trellised and trained on pergolas, respecting the natural balance of each plant. The aim is not to intervene, but to accompany.
Winemaking
The vinification process of Nanclares y Prieto A Senda Vermella is a continuation of this same sensibility. The grapes are harvested by hand, carefully selected and trodden with the feet. Fermentation is carried out with skins and stems for 21 days, with no added yeasts. The wine is then aged for 11 months on its gross lees in a combination of used French oak (69%) and stainless steel (31%) barrels, with bâtonnage in the first month. It is bottled without filtering or fining, and rests for a further 9 months in the bottle before being released into the world.
Taste
Nanclares Prieto A Senda Vermella is an Atlantic red , fresh and deeply elegant. On the nose, it displays a palette of fresh red fruits - pomegranate, blueberry, raspberry - along with notes of dried leaves, white pepper and wild flowers. On the palate, it is light but taut, with lively acidity running through the palate, fine tannins and a finish marked by a mineral salinity. There is no exuberance, but subtlety: a wine that speaks softly, but leaves its mark. Refined, authentic, designed for those who seek truth in every sip.
