Description
La Maison Romane was born as a gesture of resistance: Oronce de Beler, with years of experience in other wineries, decided to embark on an intimate project, focused on wines that speak more of the soil than of technique. His first love was Marsannay, an appellation in the north of the Côte de Nuits that still lives in the shadow of its more famous neighbours, but with a vibrant identity. There he found the Longeroies plot, on stony limestone and clay soils, with a fresh orientation and a singular energy. The continental climate, with slow ripening, allows for an elegant and pure expression of Pinot Noir, the wine's only variety. La Maison Romane is committed to organic practices and minimal intervention, with courageous choices such as selective manual harvesting and vinification that respects the natural pulse of the must.
Winemaking
The grapes for La Maison Romane Marsannay Longeroies are hand-picked in small crates and double sorted to ensure the highest quality. They are gently destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in open vats, without corrections or additives, respecting the identity of the vineyard as much as possible. Extraction is delicate: just a few light pump-overs to preserve the finesse of the Pinot Noir. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels for 15 to 18 months, with only 15-20% new wood, always seeking balance, precision and subtlety. Finally, La Maison Romane Marsannay Longeroies is bottled without aggressive filtration, preserving its pure and transparent character.
Taste
On the nose, La Maison Romane Marsannay Longeroies offers sour cherry, ripe raspberry, dried petals and a marked earthy note of damp forest and wet stone. There is no excess: everything is restrained, as if whispered. On the palate, it is agile but firm, with a vibrant acidity that tightens the passage and polished tannins that accompany without weighing it down. Notes of pomegranate, dried leaves, light spices and lingering minerality. The finish is fresh, long, with a delicate echo of red liquorice and black tea. An honest, profound Pinot Noir that reflects the essence of the vineyard without artifice.
