Description
The history of the maison Joseph Drouhin begins in 1880 in Beaune, when Joseph Drouhin decided that his life would be dedicated to the landscapes and vineyards of Burgundy. Since then, the family has maintained a clear philosophy: the wine should be the voice of the vineyard, not the winemaker. Each generation has expanded the house's heritage, but always with the same conviction: even the most accessible wines must convey authenticity and elegance. Joseph Drouhin Mâcon-Villages is born precisely from that idea, a BurgundyChardonnay that seeks to showcase the purest and most luminous essence of the southern part of the region.
The grapes come from Mâconnais, an area of rolling hills and golden stone villages where the climate is slightly warmer than in the Côte d'Or. Here, the Chardonnay ripens easily without losing freshness. The clay-limestone soils provide the mineral base that defines the style of the Mâcon-Villages appellation. The Drouhin family has always advocated sustainable viticulture in Burgundy, a decision that at the time was almost a gamble but which today is an essential part of its identity. Joseph Drouhin Mâcon-Villages reflects exactly this philosophy: purity, balance and loyalty to the terroir.
Winemaking
The Joseph Drouhin Mâcon-Villages grapes are harvested with great care to preserve the natural freshness of the Chardonnay. After arriving at the winery, the grapes are gently pressed to obtain only the most delicate musts. The aim is to maintain the cleanest expression of the fruit and to avoid any harshness.
Fermentation is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. This method allows the primary aromas and the fresh character of the variety to be preserved. The wine is then left for six to eight months on its fine lees, also in stainless steel. This contact with the lees gives the wine a rounder, slightly creamier texture without detracting from the overall liveliness. Finally, Joseph Drouhin Mâcon Villages is gently clarified and bottled to preserve its fresh, direct profile.
Taste
In the glass, Joseph Drouhin Mâcon Villages has a pale, bright yellow colour. The nose opens delicately: white flowers, fresh apple and ripe pear appear first, accompanied by a hint of peach and a fine citrus note of lemon.
On the palate the wine enters with immediate freshness. The white fruit dominates the attack, juicy and clean, supported by a fresh and precise acidity that brings tension and energy. The texture is smooth, with an elegant medium body that envelops the palate without heaviness.
As it progresses, an elegant chalky minerality emerges that carries the wine through to the finish. The aftertaste is fresh, slightly citrusy, with a subtle hint of almond. A luminous, balanced and extraordinarily easy to enjoy white wine from Burgundy.
