Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The white 2021 Flor de Muga Blanco Reserva sold with the Reserva category, as the market is more and more interested in whites with a long élevage. It's a white with aging potential and complexity produced with a blend of 40% old-vine Viura, 30% Garnacha Blanca and 30% Maturana Blanca with good ripeness in a great year when the grapes ripened thoroughly and developed full aromas and flavors but kept very good freshness. The free-run juice fermented in small barrels at low temperature, then was kept in concrete eggs for three months and then aged for six months in new barrels crafted by their coopers. It's smoky, spicy and toasty, still very young and undeveloped, primary but open and expressive with balsamic notes of bay leaf, waxy apples and flowers, and it has a seamless and balanced palate with a serious, chalky finish. 23,038 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2022.

Description
In the world of wine, there are bottles that are enjoyed and others that leave a mark. Flor de Muga Blanco belongs to the latter category. It is not just any white wine; it is a declaration of intent from Bodegas Muga, a winery with more than 90 years of history in the heart of Rioja Alta.
The composition of Flor de Muga Blanco leaves no room for doubt: Viura, Garnacha Blanca and Maturana Blanca in an almost poetic balance. Each one contributes its own: freshness, structure and a touch of complexity. But what is really special is in their origins. These grapes come from selected plots with varied soils, from the clay-limestone soils of Villalba de Rioja to the sandy loam soils of Haro and Anguciana. Soils poor in nutrients, but rich in history and expression.
Winemaking
If there is one thing that defines Muga, it is its respect for tradition. The grapes are harvested by hand, each cluster is treated with care. After a brief maceration, the free-run juice is extracted by gravity and fermented in new French oak barrels. And here comes the magic: six months in barrels on its lees and 18 months in the bottle before it is released. The result is a Flor de Muga Blanco that has matured slowly, gaining complexity without losing its vibrant essence.
Taste
From the first moment, Flor de Muga Blanco grabs you with its golden colour and clean brightness. On the nose, it is an explosion of aromas: grapefruit, lemon peel, white flowers and that spicy touch reminiscent of vanilla and cinnamon. But it is on the palate that it really surprises. Its vibrant acidity perfectly balances its creamy texture, leaving a sensation of freshness and a long, subtly mineral finish that invites you to keep drinking.
It is the kind of wine that you will want to share at a special dinner, but that you would also enjoy on its own, with a glass in your hand and good music in the background. It pairs wonderfully with seafood, white fish and spicy meats, although, let's be honest, its true partner is the perfect moment.
If you like whites with character, that speak of their origin and tell a story in every sip, this wine is for you.
