Description
From Rosheim, in the heart of Alsace, Jean Marc Dreyer makes wines that break the mould without losing the essence of his land. Faithful to biodynamics, he works without filtration, without sulphites and without ties, allowing the wine to express itself with rawness and authenticity. Dreyer Origin Gewurztraminer Macération is born of this philosophy: a single varietal made from skins, offering a new reading -more textural and earthy- of this grape known for its aromatic exuberance.
Winemaking
Grown in clay-limestone soils, Dreyer's Gewürztraminer ripens in a semi-continental climate that preserves acidity and accentuates varietal expression. But there are no frills or sweetness here: maceration with skins transforms the exuberance into something deeper, more serious. The wine is vinified naturally, without temperature control, and fermented with indigenous yeasts in large old oak vats, where it also ages for 11 months on its fine lees. It is not clarified, it is not filtered, and no sulphur is added.
Taste
On the nose, Dreyer Origin Gewürztraminer Macération displays a mix of dried orange peel, wilted petals, sweet spices and black tea. Nothing is immediate or obvious; everything is insinuated with delicacy and depth. The palate is dry, medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a surprising acidity that keeps it fresh and lively. Notes of dried apricot, pink grapefruit, and a saline and mineral background reminiscent of the soil of origin. The finish is long, slightly bitter, almost citrus-skinned, and with an herbal touch that invites further exploration. A wine for purists, for those who seek the essential beneath the surface.
