Description
In the hills of Rosheim, in the vibrant heart of Alsace, Jean-Marc Dreyer takes his love of terroir to the limit with Dreyer Origin Riesling Macération : a wine that challenges the norms of Alsace white by incorporating a skin maceration that is unusual for the variety. 100% Riesling, grown under biodynamic principles, in clay-limestone soils that provide a vibrant minerality. Dreyer, passionate about minimal intervention and letting the soil do the talking, made a bold decision: to transform his Riesling into an "orange wine" that would reveal another, more structured and earthy side, without losing the natural tension that characterises the grape variety.
Winemaking
The grapes for Dreyer Origin Riesling Macération are hand-picked and rigorously selected. After destemming, the grapes macerate with their skins for about 10 days, starting a spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The must is then transferred to neutral foudres, where it rests for 11 months, without bâtonnage or corrections. There is no filtration or fining: what is bottled is the liquid truth of the vineyard, with controlled oxidative ageing that adds texture and complexity without masking the varietal character.
Taste
In the glass, Dreyer Origin Riesling Macération dazzles with a golden-orange hue. The nose displays aromas of citrus zest, bergamot, ripe pear and a hint of dried flower. On the palate, it has a firm, upright entry, with precise acidity that is the backbone of the wine. As it opens up, it shows notes of green apple, apricot skin, white tea and a saline background reminiscent of wet stone. The finish is long, dry, slightly bitter and with a lingering mineral echo. It is not a complacent wine: it is direct, pure and vibrant. A white with the soul of a red, ideal for palates seeking authenticity, texture and tension.
