The 2022 Kirchenstück G.C. is deep, intense and refined on the concentrated nose that reveals apricot and iodine notes and indicates great complexity. Full-bodied, enormously deep and rich on the palate, this is an intense, tight and powerful yet refined, vital and persistently saline Kirchenstück. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in November 2023.

Description
Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Kirchenstück GC is situated at the foot of the Haardt Mountains, being one of the prime locations in Forster, covering 4 hectares, of which the Dr. Bürklin-Wolf winery owns 0.5 ha. This plot has been recognised since 1828 in the Royal Bavarian Classification, where it was the only one to receive the highest score. It is known as the "Queen" among the Grand Cru locations. No other terroir produces such complex and elegant Rieslings. The south-eastern slope of the hill facilitates rapid warming of the basalt, while the dense layers of clay and sand ensure optimal water balance and mineral absorption.
Elaboration
The grapes are harvested selectively, picking only healthy and fully ripe grapes. Subsequently, a gentle press is carried out. Fermentation is spontaneous and temperature-controlled, and the wine is aged in large oak barrels, known as Doppelstück-Holzfass.
Taste
Kirchenstück shows typical complexity. It is multifaceted, juicy and dense, with an elegant texture. Its impressive minerality indicates a slow and significant ageing potential.
