Description

On a misty morning among the limestone hills of Sancerre, Jean-Laurent and Jean-Dominique Vacheron walked their plots with the conviction that the soil - more than the techniques - dictates the identity of the wine. This is how Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Blanc was born: a pure expression of Sauvignon Blanc grown on flint, limestone and marl soils in one of the most prestigious enclaves of the Loire Valley. The estate, which has been in family hands for generations, made a bold decision: to convert all 34 hectares to biodynamic cultivation, without herbicides or synthetic products, allowing each plot to speak with its own voice. The region's continental climate, with cold winters and mild summers, reinforces the wine's natural tension and freshness.

Winemaking

The grapes are harvested by hand, plot by plot, selecting only the grapes at their optimum ripeness. Once in the cellar, the bunches are gently pressed and the must is cooled to decant the suspended particles. The fermentation of Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Blanc is carried out in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, in order to preserve the maximum varietal expression of the Sauvignon Blanc. Subsequently, the wine remains for a few months on its fine lees, without bâtonnage, gaining volume and complexity without losing sharpness or transparency. The entire winemaking process prioritises minimal intervention, with very light fining and filtering before bottling.

Taste

In the glass, Domaine Vacheron Sancerre Blanc is bright, with pale yellow tones and greenish reflections. The nose is subtle but precise: lime, pink grapefruit, elderflower, boxwood, freshly cut grass and a deep mineral note reminiscent of hot flint. The palate is taut, lively and linear. The citrus attack merges with a vibrant acidity that structures the wine and lengthens it. A hint of green apple and white currant emerges in the mid-palate, with a saline background that adds energy and character. The finish is dry, long, with a sharp freshness and a lingering minerality that invites the next sip. A pure Sauvignon, without make-up, for those seeking authenticity and precision.
