The 2020 Bolgheri Rosso Camarcanda is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc in a supporting role. Showing youthful primary fruit at this young stage, the wine delivers impressive balance and fruit versus oak integration. Angelo Gaja and his team are dedicated to the pursuit of elegance in these two grape varieties that can often deliver too much power and concentration when unchecked. Timing the harvest correctly and the careful use of French oak is key to these overall results, especially with regard to the medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and the long silkiness of this age-worthy vintage.

Description
Ca' Marcanda Bolgheri Camarcanda is a powerful and elegant expression of Tuscan terroir, with an international style. This wine comes from the vineyards of Ca' Marcanda, a 100 hectares estate on the coast of Bolgheri, Tuscany. The name "Ca' Marcanda" in Piedmontese dialect means "bargaining", referring to the long negotiation that led to the acquisition of the land by Angelo Gaja.
Elaboration
The grapes used for this wine are Merlot (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (40%) and Cabernet Franc (10%). These varieties are fermented and macerated separately for approximately 15 days. After 12 months of ageing in oak barrels and a further 6 months in cement vats, the wines are blended and left to age for several months in the bottle before being released onto the market.
Taste
Ca' Marcanda Bolgheri Camarcanda is characterised by an intense aroma of red fruits and floral notes, typical of Mediterranean scrubland. On the palate, it has a dense texture and a remarkable mineral character, with a persistent finish and soft tannins.
