Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The single-vineyard white Albillo Real 2023 La Danza del Viento Camino Real feels quite similar to the 2022 I tasted next to it. It seems like the plot is able to absorb the heat quite well. Despite the 14.5% alcohol on the label, the wine has poise and combines the ripe fruit character of the grape with some salinity that isn't very common in the village of Cadalso de los Vidrios (it's more frequent in San Martín). The wine comes through as suppler, tastier and more balanced. 800 bottles were filled in July 2023.

Features

Description

On the granite slopes of the Sierra de Gredos, where the wind sweeps the old terraces and the vines survive by sheer stubbornness, 4 Monos La Danza del Viento Camino Real is born. An Albillo Real from a single site, Camino Real, where hundred-year-old vines sink their roots in sandy soils of degraded granite. The "4 Monos", a quartet of winegrower friends, have made this extreme place their field of sensory exploration. Here, less is more, and intervention is reduced to the essentials: natural wine from Gredos, listening to the land.

Winemaking

The grapes for 4 Monos La Danza del Viento Camino Real are selected by hand and fermented spontaneously in used 600-litre barrels, with indigenous yeasts and without destemming or corrections. The wine is aged on its fine lees for 9 months, without bâtonnage, fining or filtering, allowing the wine to evolve with minimal oenological intervention.

Taste

Slightly veiled yellow, like the mist that covers Gredos at dawn. On the nose, 4 Monos La Danza del Viento Camino Real displays notes of wet stone, dried flowers, raw almond and a subtle hint of citrus peel. The palate is sharp, upright, dry and deeply mineral. The fruit is just a hint - water pear, fresh quince - but the texture is dense, enveloping, marked by tension and a lingering salinity. It is a serious, austere, slow-listening white wine. It does not shout, but it lingers. A bottle that captures the wind, the granite and the will not to make concessions.
