Description

At the entrance to the Munster Valley, in sunny Turckheim, the Zind Humbrecht winery cultivates Gewürztraminer with absolute respect for the land and its rhythms. Olivier Humbrecht, a pioneer of biodynamic viticulture in Alsace and France's first Master of Wine, has made this wine a sincere expression of the balance between ripeness and freshness. His choice of alluvial gravel soils - less prestigious than those rich in marl and limestone - was risky at the time, but it allowed him to capture a more direct, generous and pleasurable version of Gewürztraminer. In Zind Humbrecht Gewürztraminer Turckheim, daytime warmth and nighttime freshness ensure full ripeness, and Olivier knows exactly when to slow down the sugar momentum to preserve the wine's vibrant soul.

Winemaking

The grapes for Zind Humbrecht Gewürztraminer Turckheim are harvested by hand at optimum ripeness. After a slow and gentle pressing, the must is fermented with indigenous yeasts in large old oak vats. Ageing on fine lees for several months adds texture and complexity, without stealing the limelight from the fruit. No new wood or invasive techniques are used: the aim is for the wine to express, without embellishment, the character of the terroir. Zind Humbrecht Gewürztraminer Turckheim is bottled with minimal intervention, preserving its authenticity.

Taste

On the nose, Zind Humbrecht Gewürztraminer Turckheim displays an exotic fragrance of rose petals, ripe lychee and candied citrus, nuanced by earthy notes and sweet spices such as cardamom and ginger. The palate is full and silky, weighty but not heavy. Tropical fruit - pineapple, mango, passion fruit - coexist with a subtle tension and moderate acidity that cleanses the palate. The finish is long, with echoes of grapefruit peel, salinity and a slight elegant bitterness. A hedonistic yet balanced Gewürztraminer, ideal for spicy Asian dishes, seafood in sauce or intense cheeses. Pure Alsatian expression.
