Description
Verónica Ortega Cobrana is a crianza red wine produced by Bodega Verónica Ortega in Valtuille de Abajo (León) D.O. Bierzo.
This wine has been crafted mainly from Mencía, with a small amount of Palomino, Doña Blanca and Godello grapes.
These varieties come from a vineyard more than 90 years old, located at 750 metres above sea level and planted on worn slate and clay soils, which results in fresher wines with a clear Atlantic character.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand and placed in 18 kg crates to protect the quality of the grapes. Once in the winery, the whole bunches macerate very gently and for a long period of time in open conical wooden vats of 3000 litres, where they ferment with indigenous yeasts.
Malolactic fermentation and ageing take place in 228-litre French oak barrels and 800-litre amphorae for 13 months. Verónica Ortega lightly filters the wine before bottling.
Taste
Verónica Ortega Cobrana is a juicy red wine with fruity aromas. On the palate the tannins are pleasant, integrated and juicy; medium-bodied with a pleasant texture and a tasty finish.
