Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
From 45-year-old vines in a southwest-facing, vertically lined 2.66-hectare plot, the 2019 Riesling Grand Cru Geisberg is very clear and coolish, even herbal and floral on the intense and finely concentrated nose. Full-bodied and quite rich in texture, this is a very intense, powerful and sustainable, firmly structured Geisberg with an aristocratic, Protestant character. The wine is pure and saline on the finish and herbal again, very intense, long and saline. This is a long-distance runner and a great wine! 14% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.

Description
On the steep terraces of the Geisberg, just behind the Trimbach winery in Ribeauvillé, a Riesling is born that embodies the purity of the Alsatian terroir in its most austere and precise form. For years, this vineyard was part of the blend of the famous Frédéric Émile. But in 2009, Pierre Trimbach decided to isolate its purest expression and bottle the Grand Cru Geisberg separately. A sober decision, far removed from marketing, which responds to a philosophy of minimum intervention and maximum fidelity to the origin. With only 8.53 hectares, Trimbach Alsace Grand Cru Geisberg Riesling is one of the smallest Grand Crus in Alsace. Trimbach cultivates 2.6 ha of old vines (over 50 years old) on calcareous marl and dolomite soils, on steep south-facing slopes. A terroir that lends tension, minerality and restrained maturity to the region's queen variety: Riesling.
Winemaking
The grapes for the Trimbach Alsace Grand Cru Geisberg Riesling are harvested at the right point of ripeness, gently pressed in a pneumatic press and fermented in stainless steel tanks. There is no malolactic fermentation or prolonged ageing on the lees: the aim is to preserve the freshness, verticality and transparency of the wine. Vinification is deliberately restrained, almost invisible, allowing the soil to speak through every sip of Trimbach Alsace Grand Cru Geisberg Riesling.
Taste
Aromatically Trimbach Alsace Grand Cru Geisberg Riesling is precise and elegant: lemon zest, bergamot, white fruit and a slight hint of honey and ginger. The entry on the palate is incisive, with pure, cutting acidity supporting a firm, vibrant structure. The wine flows with energy, leaving behind saline, citrus notes and a chalky undertone. Nothing is superfluous, everything is contained, focused. As it breathes, flashes of white flower, green tea and white peach appear, always enveloped in that mineral backbone so typical of Geisberg. Dry, taut, with a long, deeply saline finish, this Riesling is meant to evolve for decades. A wine that doesn't shout, but leaves a lingering impression. Sober, refined, uncompromising.
