Description

In the heart of Ribeauvillé, Alsace, where castles have guarded the hillsides for centuries, the Trimbach family - the absolute leader in Alsace wine since 1626 - pays homage to the region's wine-growing lineage with an exceptional cuvée: Trimbach Alsace Gewürztraminer Cuvée Des Seigneurs De Ribeaupierre. It is only made in outstanding vintages, as a gesture of respect for the terroir and its history.

The grapes come from old vines (over 50 years old) grown on three unique plots: Trottacker in Ribeauvillé, with deep clay-limestone soils; Gruenspiel in Bergheim, on Keuper marl; and Muehlforst in Hunawihr, with Muschelkalk substrate and south/south-east exposure. These complex soils add volume, tension and minerality to the wine. The Trimbach philosophy moves away from the sweeter, more voluptuous style of Gewürztraminer and embraces a dry, firm, structured expression - an unconventional decision that today marks its identity.

Winemaking

The grapes for Trimbach Alsace Gewürztraminer Cuvée Des Seigneurs De Ribeaupierre are picked at full maturity and gently pressed in a pneumatic press. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness and aromatic expression. There is no malolactic fermentation or ageing on the lees, which allows the varietal clarity to be maintained. The wine is bottled in the spring and rests for six years in the cellar before release, thus achieving remarkable complexity.

Taste

On the nose, Trimbach Alsace Gewürztraminer Cuvée Des Seigneurs De Ribeaupierre displays a captivating aromatic array: dried rose petals, ripe lychee, citrus zest and a faint hint of ginger. The bouquet evokes sweetness, but the first sip reveals its dry, precise, almost austere character. The palate is broad, structured, with a delicate acidity that sustains its length and prolongs the tension. There is a sensation of restrained exotic fruit, subtle spices(clove, white pepper) and a saline minerality on the finish. A Gewürztraminer that defies clichés: serious, gastronomic and with great ageing potential. Ideal with foie gras, spicy dishes or Asian cuisine, where its richness and precision find the perfect balance.
