Description
Strohmeier TLZ Indigo is one of Franz's most precious jewels, made from the old Blauer Wildbacher vines in the best vintages. Like its namesake indigo colour, this wine is deep and intriguing. Its ability to age gracefully means that those with the patience to wait will be amply rewarded.
The vineyard of origin is Lestein, located on a steep slope on Gneiss with a clay top layer and significant iron content, near Franz's home. The vines were planted in the 1980s by his father and are driven by a single wire.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested by hand, carefully selecting only ripe and healthy grapes. Once crushed, they spend 4 weeks in contact with their skins, undergoing spontaneous primary fermentation. After a gentle pressing, the wine spends 24 months in used 500-litre and smaller wooden barrels. The wine is not fined, not filtered and no sulphur is added.
Taste
Strohmeier TLZ Indigo has an unmistakable personality. It is so deep red that it turns blue and then black, possibly the most beautiful colour we have ever seen. It is an endless upward spiral into layers of pleasure where words cannot adequately describe it.
Its flavours are reminiscent of fresh, ripe red fruits, with a crisp acidity that makes it refreshing. Ripe blueberry, raspberry and cherry flavours stand out.
