Description

Ramos Pinto has its roots in a historic Porto wine house that has always understood that elegance does not depend on body, but on precision. The concept behind Ramos Pinto Fine Tawny Porto was not simply to seek sweetness or immediate impact, but to harness the power of the Douro through ageing and patient blending. The winery, founded in 1880, distinguished itself from the outset through an almost visionary approach to the vineyard, committed to understanding each plot and working with a discipline that was rare for its time. That courageous spirit still lives on here. This wine is made from Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca, classic Douro varieties, grown in a landscape of rugged slopes, poor soils and extreme weather, where the vine gives nothing away and every bunch is packed with character. In this legendary region of Porto, tradition does not mean stagnation, but rather the ability to transform geological austerity and harsh sunshine into wines of immense character.

Production

Ramos Pinto Fine Tawny Porto is crafted as a blend of wines aged for between three and five years, refined in casks where slow contact with oxygen shapes the wine without disrupting it. The fruit enters young and firm, but the used oak and time gradually refine it towards more complex, more integrated and more serene notes. There is no attempt here to mask the wine, but rather to allow it to evolve. Oxidative ageing transforms the colour into reddish, amber and topaz hues, whilst the texture gains smoothness and the wine as a whole acquires a finely balanced delicacy before bottling.

Flavour

In the glass, Ramos Pinto Fine Tawny Porto reveals a ripe and enveloping nose, with macerated plum, dried fig, candied orange and delicate walnut. The oak emerges as a noble echo, never intrusive. On the palate, it is warm, silky and very well-balanced, with a gentle sweetness, a polished texture and a delicate finish where the nuts, candied fruit and that sensation of an evolved, refined and extraordinarily easy-to-enjoy Port return.
