Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The richest and most exuberant of these lieux-dits bottlings—reflecting both site and vintage—is the 2015 Brut Special Club Oger Grand Cru, a dramatic wine that bursts with aromas of confit citrus, pear, peach and white flowers. Full-bodied, layered and enveloping, it's broad and fruit-driven, even if it isn't as fine-boned or elegant as the Cramant and Chouilly Special Clubs.

Features

Description

Pierre Gimonnet Special Club is a high-end champagne, made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes from the famous Côte des Blancs region. This wine reflects the dedication and expertise of the Gimonnet family, who have been winemakers for generations. The blend is composed mainly of grapes from Grand Cru vineyards in Cramant (58%) and Chouilly (27%), with a small addition of grapes from Cuis 1er Cru (15%), adding freshness to the blend. The oldest vineyards date back to 1911 and 1913, which gives a unique complexity to this champagne. The chalky soils of the Côte des Blancs contribute to its mineral and fresh character.

Winemaking

In terms of winemaking, Pierre Gimonnet Special Club is the result of a meticulous process that includes manual harvesting, controlled alcoholic fermentation, and malolactic fermentation, which gives it smoothness and balance. The wine is aged for more than five years in the bottle on its lees, which enhances its texture and structure. An extra brut dosage is carried out , with only 5 g/L of sugar, preserving the purity and freshness of the wine.

Taste

In the mouth, Pierre Gimonnet Special Club stands out for its elegance and complexity. It offers a smooth and creamy texture, with a fine and persistent bubble. Citrus and green apple flavours combine with notes of toasted almond and brioche bread, resulting in a fresh profile but with depth. The finish is long, mineral and refreshing, making this champagne a perfect choice for those seeking a balance between freshness and sophistication.
