Description
Peternell Risque de Schütt comes from the north of Austria, specifically from the Burgenland region. This natural red wine has been aged in stainless steel for 12 months. As for its varieties, it is composed of 70% Blaufränkisch and 30% Zweigelt.
The project behind this wine is formed by Paul Schuster, Dave Ferris and Simon Ecker. Its origins can be traced back to a trip to Catalonia, where Paul was approached to start making wine. In 2018, with the help of Massimo Marchiri of Partida Creus, they ventured into producing their first barrels. Although they do not yet have their own vineyards, they collaborate with local winegrowers and winemakers who cultivate old vineyards biodynamically in Neusiedlersee, in the north of the country. This region, close to Lake Neusiedl, is characterised by sandy soils mixed with clays, limestone and pure gravel, ideal for the varieties Blaufränkisch and Zweigelt.
Winemaking
Under the philosophy of minimum intervention, everything starts with a 5-day semi-carbonic maceration, where the whole bunches are put into the tank. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks. Subsequently, the wine is transferred back to these tanks where it undergoes ageing and malolactic fermentation. Finally, it is bottled and put on sale.
Taste
Peternell Risque de Schütt stands out for its fruity taste. On the nose, it has aromas typical of Pinot Noir, such as wild strawberry, raspberry, spices and undergrowth, as well as tropical fruits and flowers. On the palate, it is dry, with marked acidity and a slight effervescence. It is an easy-drinking wine with a delicious red fruit character.
