Description
In the free creative spirit of Niepoort, in recent years they decided to experiment with vinifying some of their wines in clay amphorae. After several experiments, in 2018 they produced a wine they really liked: the Voyeur! After many months of ageing, they opened the various amphorae at Quinta di Napoli and created the ideal blend that offered the right combination of freshness, good acidity and lightness.
Winemaking
Niepoort Nat Cool Voyeur ferments and macerates in six 1,000-litre clay amphorae for approximately 8 months. Each amphora contained a wine from a different site in the Douro Valley, all planted with old vines. In this wine, the individual grape varieties are not the most important factor, but rather the complexity resulting from the blending of the varieties, including the white varieties. The vineyards are between 40 and 50 years old and grow in high areas, which provides a very refreshing aromatic profile and allows the wines to age for 8 months without losing their character.
Taste
Niepoort Nat Cool Voyeur offers a light colour with violet and orange hues. On the nose, the fruit is quite pronounced, with slight hints of clay which, however, do not mask the bouquet of the wine. Elegance and low alcohol content characterise the palate, with well-integrated amphora notes adding to the wine's lingering finish.
