Description
One clear morning in Cumières, amidst warm clay hills and biodynamic vines, the idea for this Brut Nature Blanc signed by Louis Roederer and Philippe Starck was born. In a lively conversation, Starck expressed his desire to create a champagne where "speed and emptiness" would be the protagonists, without artifice, and the winegrowers allowed him to respond with the absolute purity of a wine without dosage. Thus Louis Roederer & Philippe Starck Brut Nature Blanc was born: an unusual blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, harvested on the same day to preserve aromatic coherence and convey the energy of the terroir.
Winemaking
Louis Roederer & Philippe Starck Brut Nature Blanc is made exclusively in warm years when the three varieties ripen in unison, allowing them to be harvested and pressed together - an ancestral technique loaded with meaning. Part of the cuvée - less than a quarter - is vinified in barrels, adding a subtle textural dimension, while the rest retains the pure character of steel fermentation. After five to eight years on its lees, it is disgorged without any added sugar: zero dosage. This taut, direct approach culminates in a lighter, less pressed bubble than the standard Champenois.
Taste
Louis Roederer & Philippe Starck Brut Nature Blanc presents itself with sculptural precision: over a pillar of citrus freshness - lemon, tangerine peel - rise notes of ripe white fruit such as pear and amber peach, enveloped in reminiscences of freshly baked bread, dried flowers and wet stone. The texture is expansive: fleshy, concentrated core of fruit, chalky structure and a long, precise finish. Critics highlight its mineral intensity, with echoes of chalk, sea salt, oyster shells and an umami nuance that makes it expressive, earthy and totally dry.
